Feeling: optimistic
I'm going to attempt to revive my LiveJournal. I've been journaling semi-regularly for several months, and I find that different methods work at different times. I love the intimacy and art of handwriting (with the added bonus that sketches can be haphazardly tossed in), but though it lacks in personality, the speed of a computer has its own appeal. And LiveJournal? LJ has the advantage of being mildly public. I am a narcissist, and I like to daydream that by recording my philosophical meanderings in a public forum, others may read them and think me brilliant. (I am also a realist and do not expect this to actually happen--but sharing my entries means the possibility is at least always there.) I would not have admitted to such a self-absorbed motivation at the time that I wrote my last entry. See? I'm growing.

Anyway, to the point: I've made some resolutions recently. Following is the list of improvements I want to make to my life.

1) Get a job.

I'm not sure if I can describe just how much I want to be working. I pine for productivity and contribution. I long to feel useful in this world, purposeful. And I need--NEED--to support myself. It's long overdue. I need it.

2) Stop wasting time.

I waste time with activities that provide me with no fulfillment. I watch repeats of shows, reread books I know almost by heart, and spend vast amounts of time not developing at all. The reason is that I am content to do anything that makes me happy; unfortunately, I am notoriously easy to please. Playing Bejeweled or Minesweeper for three hours would make me happy, or watching television all day long. My new stipulation is that for every activity, throughout the day, I will check in with myself with the question, "Do I care about this?" If the answer is no, then I must stop and refocus my energies on something I do care about. This is where television and Internet fall by the wayside, and reading more advanced books, reading the paper, hiking, meditating, cooking, learning Spanish and bird songs, drawing, writing, and carving win. Productivity over laziness.

3) Be more environmentally aware.

My earth-friendly habits are dropping off now that I've left Oregon. Resolutions: Shorter showers. Organic and local products. Buy secondhand. Buy less. Reuse! Flush only when necessary. Be up and down with the sun instead of the moon.

Those are my significant thoughts of the past few days. A life update may come tomorrow. In the meantime, if you dwell on this and marvel at my brilliance, I'd be much obliged. ;)
